- Roach On Scunthorpe Draw
Joe Roach has his say as the caretaker duo took charge in their first home match at the weekend.
"At the end of it we we are happy with the point. They put us under some pressure at the end and we changed our shape to accommodate one or two things. It probably didn't suit us late on. We had opportunities early on, hit the bar and were disappointed with the goal that was disallowed. I thought it was a good goal.
"We now have points, in terms of aspects of the game that we can work on and improve. It was nice get the home game under our belt and get a result from it at the end. 4-4-2 obviously suits them, it doesn't particularly suit us but we had to get a hold of the game for a period of time and probably lost our foothold on it in that period. But I'm pleased the way things are going, the lads are responding very well.
"We had a good corner and James Hayter had a good header and it would have been fantastic to go a goal up at that time. But we went a goal down and yet again we showed a lot of character to get back on the ball again and obviously, the goal that Darren scored was a fantastic freekick so he played his part today. Technically he has got those attributes.
"We were actually discussing on the sidelines whether he was going to hit it or whether he was maybe too far out so it was tongue-in-cheek really when the ball flew into the back of the net. It's fantastic for him, it puts him on the stage today, maybe a little bit early but then you are going to draw on his experiences. In the first half he provided those and obviously encapsulated it with a fantastic goal so we're really pleased with the part he played today."
