- Sean looks back on cup defeat
Posted on: Mon 07 Nov 2005
Reflection from manager Sean O'Driscoll on the weekend FA Cup exit to Tamworth, who now travel to Hartlepool in round two.
"The game was predictable, we knew that they were going to get everyone behind the ball. I think they only had a couple of shots, but we could have read that script before. We've got to keep them out, if one of those two shots go in then it's going to be a struggle. We made the headlines last week for the right reasons and we will probably make them again this week for the wrong reasons.
"We moved the ball as well as we could. I didn't think we created enough first half and in the second half we upped the tempo. We didn't work their goalkeeper enough, but we are not a physical side. We couldn't just throw the ball in there because of their six-foot-four central defenders. I thought we were brave on the ball and on another day we could have scored a couple. Tamworth came here to do a job, they didn't come here to open out and get beat by five or six. Good luck to them in the next round.
"I've seen it on the video and if it had been a red card then it would be rescinded. If it had been a yellow card then it would be rescinded but it's a penalty and you can't do anything about it. You would have to ask Marcus whether it was deliberate but on the video, if it had been a red card then the FA would have rescinded it by Monday morning."
