Bournemouth started with three strikers against Swindon Town. Sean O'Driscoll spoke about how the tactics worked along with giving comment on Alan Connell's first start for over fourteen months, Neil Young's injury and the prospect of a new face this week. Sean said, "I think that was the standard of performance we've come to expect of the team and sometimes things don't go for you. We're going through a period like that at the moment and I don't think you could ask any more of the players. I was disappointed with our performance against Bristol City, but today our general performance was excellent."
"We had a game plan and it worked to a large extent. Set plays were always going to be a problem because they are a big side compared to us and they were always going to be a threat from long throws."
"People accuse us of being predictable with Steve Fletcher. All season we've been trying to change things round in attack and generally it has caused problems. I thought what we tried to do today was spot-on and fair play to the players for putting that into action."
Alan Connell made his first start in the Second Division and Sean said, "Alan's always going to be lively because he wants to play and he's enthusiastic. Whether or not he's ready is another argument. He's not fit enough to play ninety minutes yet, but he did well and gave us an extra spark that he'll be pleased with. He now has to maintain that level and try to improve."
Speaking about the situation regarding Neil Young Sean commented, "Neil broke down in training and this has happened to him two or three times now. He had an injection and at a push could have waited until the end of the season, but the specialist recommended he have another operation."
"He's out of contract at the end of the season and needs to be playing so the sooner we can get him 100% fit the better. It was a tough decision, but for Neil's long-term future it's better he has the operation as soon as possible and get him back on the pitch."
"I think he'll be out for at least two months. We won't know for sure until they go inside and assess the problem. It can sometimes be longer, but they are pretty sure they know what the problem is and hopefully that won't be the case."
On the loan front Sean said, "Read the unofficial web site because that's where all the rumours seem to come out! Hopefully the finance is now in place to enable us to bring someone in. We've tried for a couple of people that turned out to be financially out of our reach. We've spoken to one or two others and if something happens it will probably be early next week."
