O'Driscoll emphasises team performance

There were positive aspects throughout the entire team on Saturday and manager Sean O'Driscoll highlighted that in saying it was good team performance. The replay will settle it and O'Driscoll is under no illusions after Southend's first round FA Cup win against Hartlepool.
On the game itself Sean said, "We were quite confident in the first half, got a goal up and came out in the second half and started again. We started really well, but then had a problem with the wind and to be fair to Southend, they treated it as a cup tie and got at us and caused us problems. We started really well. We were determined not to get beaten and we felt we could win the game. In the first half, I thought we did a great job. Karl Broadhurst kept his scoring run going so he's one closer to Jermain's record!"
"The second half, the wind gave us a big problem. We couldn't really play the way we wanted to and to be fair to Southend, they got back into the game. We finished really strong in retrospect we should have buried them. We had a couple of chances were our strikers have done really well or we have had good play and it's been good defending by Southend or poor finishing from us. I think their keeper got man of the match."
A second have equaliser from Mark Rawle means the tie will be replayed on Tuesday December 17th and irrespective of a great home record, Sean knows they'll be a threat. About that and the equaliser to bring about the replay he said, "They've got nothing to lose now and have already proved they can do it by winning at Hartlepool and our big pitch will suit their wingers. They'll come to our place and be a threat and it'll be another interesting game."
"I Neil could have been a bit stronger. Like all keepers, if you touch them, they think it is a foul. We'll have to look at the video to see but from where we was it didn't look like there was much interference. If you take it the other way, if we had got a goal chalked off for it then I would probably have been disappointed. But that's keepers, they're a little bit crazy and they get blamed for everything!"
Spectators from Southend noted how effective the midfield was and in particular Garreth O'Connor. O'Connor ran his socks off, created chances for others and himself, but O'Driscoll stated how that was just a part of a great team performance. He said, "We're very much a team and everybody has played their part. I have a great deal of respect for the two wide men. Danny did really well. Gareth O'Connor has come into his own. It would have been nice for Garreth to have finished off his performance with a goal, but he did everything right. James Hayter played really well and the back four threw in some last ditch tackling at the end."
