O'Driscoll gives credit to versatile James

James Hayter scored his first goal of the season yesterday and how! Steve Fletcher latched onto some loose defending by Wrexham and the ball to Hayter was struck with venom off the post and into goal. Hayter's high standards have seen him score more regularly in the past, but O'Driscoll paid tribute to his general performances in games.
On the game itself, O'Driscoll said, "I think at half time both managers would have given the same team talk and both teams has periods throughout the game. Again at the end of the game we'd have probably said the same things, just that they got the final goal when it could easily have been us or remained a 2-2 draw."
"Both teams had periods where they were in total control of the game and I've said before that I think the four relegated teams from division two last year will be up there at the end of the season. You could see today that Wrexham were a threat going forward and they'll say themselves that they have to tighten up at the back."
Wrexham manager Dennis Smith talked about the number of chances that fell to both sides and proclaimed that the match could have finished six a piece. O'Driscoll said, "I'd have settled for six all because that means we'd have got a point. We always feel we're a threat going forward and that we're going to score goals."
"We've got two exciting wingers and James Hayter's on fire at the moment. Wrexham gambled in the second half by putting an extra forward on and taking the left wing back off. If we'd nicked a goal on the break then maybe it wouldn't have worked for Dennis, but fair play to them, they've gambled and got a result."
James Hayter's consistent performances have improved since netting his first goal of the season against Oxford in the LDV trophy and he got his league scorecard off and running in quite some fashion with a bolt from the blue against Wrexham. His overall play has been of a high quality all season though and O'Driscoll said, "His performances have been excellent. He's dropped into the hole today, did a great job on Darren Ferguson and created a lot."
"He did score a fantastic goal and whether he does so or not he still had an excellent game. Maybe that goal forced Wrexham to think that if they can't defend they'll just try to outscore us. It worked and we're disappointed as we feel that to score two goals away from home we have to take something from the game and we didn't."
