Cherries manager Eddie Howe was blunt in his assessment of the Cherries 3-2 reverse at Grimsby, praising the efforts of the hosts whilst being highly disappointed with the Bournemouth performance.
He told www.afcb.co.uk, "I don't think we played well at any point in the game. Grimsby were the better team and deserved to win and it's full credit to them. It's a difficult place to go to and they are fighting for their lives and they put us under a lot of pressure and in most departments we were poor and didn't deal with what was thrown at us well enough.
It's very rare that I have been disappointed with performances this season, but unfortunately that was one of them. Even so, it did look as if we might be able to cling on to a point, but we didn't do enough to warrant that. We dipped below our standards and that's what happens if you don't perform.
As soon as I saw the incident with Jeff I thought it was a sending off. It's very unlike him, but it happened and we had to deal with it. The second Grimsby goal was a clear handball, and that has been shown since, but somehow the officials didn't see it. That's gone though, it history now and we can't do anything about it.
I'd like to thank the supporters who made the long trip to Grimsby. It was a near 600 miles round trip and I really feel for them because they put in a tremendous effort to come and support us and I can only apologise for the performance."
