Former AFC Bournemouth player Rod Taylor has passed away at the age of 74.

Following a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s, Rod passed away at Poole Hospital on Monday 16th April.

Born in Corfe Mullen in 1943, Rod's career as a professional footballer began with Portsmouth when he signed his first professional contract in May 1961.

He then followed Freddie Cox to Gillingham in July 1963, before signing for the Cherries with Cox as manager in 1966 - becoming a popular member of the squad at Dean Court.

Taylor made 30 Fourth Division for the club prior to joining Poole Town in August 1967.

The club would like to send their condolences to Rod's family and friends at this time.
