AFC Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson believes returning to the first-team fold won’t just be a reward for his hard work, but for his family too.

Wilson, who has been out since damaging his knee at Stoke City back in September, sat down with Cherries Player HD and Vitality, the club’s official health and wellness partner, to discuss his long road to recovery and the tireless work he has put in to his rehab.

The 23-year-old is eager to play some part in the Cherries’ end of season run-in and believes it won’t be long before he is back in Barclays Premier League action, citing his family as one of the main reasons for his positive frame of mind during his recovery process.

"I want to be back training in a few weeks’ time and get back before the end of the season," the striker told Cherries Player HD and Vitality.

"My knee has not reacted in a bad way at all, I'm knocking down the hurdles until I'm eventually back training.

"I've been really positive about the whole thing, it’s probably because I'm a positive person, it’s kept me sane!

"I'm at the training ground from around eight o'clock in the morning until half four on most days, hitting the rehab hard so I can come back fitter and stronger.

"Having a supportive family at home has been massive for me, when you’re feeling down they pick you back up and it will be a reward for all of us when I return.

"My son is only young so he’s wasn't sure what was going on at first but they've been so good to me and it will be a big moment for us when I finally return."

Wilson has been at the majority of home games since his injury and has been included in Eddie Howe’s 25-man squad until the end of the season.

And the striker revealed he never had any doubt whether or not he would be included in the final squad.

"I've seen Tommy return to action and Max return to the club and do little bits, so I am next on the list!" Wilson continued.

"I'm already visualising my first game back and my first goal back. I never had any doubt I’d be included, I was always confident.

"When I'm at the games, I'm kicking and heading every ball and I'm obviously urging the team on as I want them to do well. Hopefully soon I’ll be the one properly heading and kicking every ball."
