It was a dream come true this week for youth team graduate Alex Parsons as he reported back for pre season training in the professional ranks. Alex proved last season to be a highly versatile player. Mainly used as a midfielder in the reserves and youth, he spent much of the second half of the campaign playing up front, providing many assists.
His elevation to the professional ranks comes after two years of hard work in the youth team, and he still has to pinch himself that he came back to the Seward Stadium his week with the rest of te pro's! "This is just massive for me and the two years in the youth team has all been building up to this. It just didn't feel real coming in this week for pre season, I've thought about it all summer, biut now I'm here, it doesn't feel real!
It's been a hard start, but I've was given a programme like all the lads and kept myself fit and that has stood me good stead. It's so important that you do keep yourself fit in the close season because you can break down so easily at this stage.
I've always had the belief that I could get here, all the lads did in the youth team because they were all good players. I had a spell out with injury but after Christmas things just fell in to place and clicked and I felt then I hag a chance, and now I'm determined to take that.
I'm now absolutely buzzing for pre season and all the games in a short space of time and I'm sure there will be a few chances for me. It's good we have a two day tournament with some quality opposition, and that will give us all a chance. I've only ever played against clubs from here and mainly boys of my age, so it will be a massive challenge.
I know I am going to have to work very hard to give myself a chance and that will ll come through training, and if I can do that well, hopefully things will move on from there. I feel it's to my advantage that I can play in a number of positions as I did last season and I'll play anywhere the manager wants me to.
It is a dream come true, but I know I am going to have to work really hard and I'm determined to succeed."
