Goals from Steve Cook and Benik Afobe secured all three points, and Howe was delighted to send the Cherries faithful home happy from Vitality Stadium.
"I am very pleased for everyone," he started.
"Especially the supporters. I think we knew how big of a game it was for them today, it's been such a long time since we've beaten Southampton.
"But we were on it tonight and the crowd were very good. They got behind us and we gave them something to cheer about.
"The whole team functioned and when we do play well and the whole team is performing, we are a very difficult team to beat."
Whilst Cook and Afobe were the names on the scoresheet, Howe was also quick to praise the work of Matt Ritchie, as the Scotland international provided exquisite free-kick deliveries for both goals.
"He's got a lovely left foot," Howe continued.
"There's never been any doubt about that. When he connects and gets it right, whether he is shooting or creating, it's a real weapon in our armoury.
"So I was delighted for him to get two assists and the other two lads to score."
