Afobe: I’ve dreamed about this moment since I was a little boy

Posted: Sat 16 Jan 2016

Benik Afobe admitted that he fulfilled a childhood dream by netting his first Barclays Premier League goal against Norwich City.

The January signing rounded off a 3-0 scoreline with a typically neat finish, following good work from left-back Charlie Daniels.

“It’s right up there as a highlight of my career,” Afobe explained after the match.

“First of all, we just wanted to win the game. So to score three goals, keep the clean sheet and get my first Premier League goal – I am delighted.

“It was unbelievable when it hit the net - words can’t described that. I’ve dreamed about it since I was a little boy."

Afobe has quickly settled in to life on the south coast, following his move from Championship side Wolves. Something that the 22-year-old puts down to his positive approach to the game.

“I’ve never felt any pressure,” he continued.

“As a child I used to just go out and play football to enjoy it, so I’ve tried to keep that.

“I’ve worked hard so I want to enjoy it. The important thing is to always play with a smile on your face, and I’ve managed to do that today.”
