AFC Bournemouth suffered a 3-0 defeat in their top-of-the-table clash with Bournemouth Sports this weekend.

The Cherries went into the encounter in confident mood and hoping to close the gap on their opponents, following a 5-3 victory over Gosport Borough in their last outing.

The ladies started well and looked composed on the ball, with Bournemouth Sports also looking a threat going forward as they caused problems for the defence early on.

The visitors did then take the lead inside the opening 10 minutes, leaving AFC Bournemouth with a hard task in front of them.

Despite that, the Cherries reacted well and started to pass the ball well and cause problems of their own.

Bournemouth Sports then won themselves a penalty, after a clumsy foul inside the penalty area. However, they could not take advantage and fired wide of the target.

The half ended AFC Bournemouth 0-1 Bournemouth Sports. With the Cherries aiming to show a lot more of an attacking edge in the second half.

Play resumed in a similar fashion after the interval, with Bournemouth Sports looking the better of the two teams, but the Cherries still firmly in the game.

Both teams missed chances but it was eventually Bournemouth Sports that extended their lead with 13 mins left to play.

The Cherries again rallied and responded well, but the visitors' defence blocked everything, leaving the Cherries frustrated.

Then with only a matter of minutes remaining, Bournemouth Sports clinched all three points by scoring a 3rd goal, after their striker slotted home from a neat through ball.

AFC Bournemouth will now be looking to bounce back next week when they face Basingstoke Reserves.
