Smith: We have a point to prove against Manchester City

AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

The last time the two sides met, Smith played 68 minutes before injury forced him to come off, subsequently ending his season, as Manuel Pellegrini’s side emerged as 4-0 winners.

For the 25-year-old, the clash at the Etihad Stadium presents an opportunity to prove a point following the two defeats to City last season.

"We’re looking forward to Saturday now," revealed Smith.

"We know the quality that they have but we’ve got to try and frustrate them and play our game and hopefully we can nick something.

"We’ve played them twice now and we haven’t performed. I think it’s important that we go there and play our best game and I think if we do that then we’re going to give them problems.

"Guardiola’s a great manager and he’s got them playing great football already and everyone can see that.

"It’s going to be a really tough game and we know that so we’re going to have to give it our all on Saturday. We didn't play as well as we could have against them last season, we have something to prove."

The former Tottenham man also spoke of his personal progress since recovering from the injury he sustained against City last season.

"I think probably another game and I’ll be up to speed," continued Smith.

"I haven’t been completely match fit but I feel like I’ve been performing quite well.

"It’s been nice from a personal point of view to get a goal and it was a nice feeling for me and my family."
