Eddie Howe updates on the latest team news ahead of Premier League visit of Middlesbrough

Eddie Howe will make a late call on the fitness of Dan Gosling ahead of the weekend’s Premier League game against Middlesbrough at Vitality Stadium.

Gosling last featured for the Cherries against Southampton on April 1st and has missed the last three games with a calf complaint.

And following confirmation of Jack Wilshere’s season-ending injury, the manager fielded questions on Gosling’s fitness in his pre-Middlesbrough press conference.

“We’ll wait and see with Dan,” Howe said. “We’ll make a late call on him, but we’ve been saying that for the last few weeks now. We can’t make any guarantees, as he hasn’t done a lot of training.

“We’re also without Andrew Surman, as well as Jack Wilshere following the confirmation of his injury.

“Jack is of course disappointed to miss the rest of the season, but he’s a positive guys and he’ll come back from this, no doubt.

“His loan spell has been hugely successful and he has made a big contribution both on and off the pitch.”

Another option in the midfield engine room for Howe could be Lewis Cook.

The England youth international appeared as a second-half substitute against Tottenham at White Hart Lane last weekend, with his only other Premier League appearance coming on the opening day of the season against Manchester United.

Howe added: “This is potentially a chance for Lewis to come in. I thought he did well when he came on against Spurs.

“He’s a talented player and we have really high hopes for him. He’s learning our way of playing and has done a lot of work behind the scenes.

“He had a good pre-season and played well in the opening game of the season against Manchester United. The difficulty for him as been the players he has been competing for places with, but throughout that period his attitude has remained professional.

“He has been a breath of fresh air, coming in and wanting to learn every day. We’ve been really pleased with how he has handled this season and he will certainly reap the benefits of that.”
