Grounds team nominated for high standard of playing surface at AFC Bournemouth’s home

The playing surface at Vitality Stadium has been nominated as one of the best in the Premier League this season.

The Cherries’ grounds staff received a ‘highly commended’ award in the Premier League Grounds Team of the Season category for 2016/17, finishing as one of the division’s top five pitches.

Manchester United won the top spot at the awards ceremony in late April.

Part of the nomination was based on the match reports from referees officiating at top-flight grounds across the season.

The final decision was then made by the Playing Surfaces Committee, of which the Institute of Groundsmanship, the Premier League, EFL and Sportsturf are members.

The immaculate playing surface at Vitality Stadium has assisted with the goals flying in this season; the Cherries netting 33 times at home – ten more than last season.
