The midfielder played 90 minutes in three of the Cherries’ four games across the month, helping his side to two victories, one draw and just one loss.

However, Arter was quick to point to the team as a collective, admitting that any player could have picked up the award in what was a good spell for the side.

“I feel that everyone could have been in contention this month,” he said.

“We’ve had some really good results and some really good individual performances so I’m pleased to get it.

“The Tottenham game for me came at a point that was a good time to test ourselves. Last year we played against them and were pretty poor in both games so it’s nice to see how far we’ve come as a club and not just individuals.

“I thought everyone gave a really good account for themselves that day and it was a really good point.

“Overall, I’m happy with the award. You want to be appreciated by your fans and I have a good relationship with them.”

The 26-year-old fought off competition from Artur Boruc, Adam Smith and Charlie Daniels on his way to the award, but admits it will be hard to match Boruc’s accolade of picking up the trophy in consecutive months.

He continued: “The challenge now is to beat him.

“I heard he was in the running for it again this month so it might have been a record if he had got it. It might have bit a little bit of a fix to make sure he didn’t get it.

“He’s had a fantastic few months anyway so he deserved it. Hopefully, I can beat it.”
