Match report: AFC Bournemouth 0-0 Charlton Athletic - Cherries unable to break down the Addicks

AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

Despite hitting the woodwork on three occasions, the Cherries were unable to find the all-important goal to seal victory - their third consecutive draw of pre-season.

Stephen Purches' men had the better of the first-half as they enjoyed the majority of possession and could have taken the lead after just ten minutes.

Keelan O'Connell threaded a deft pass through for Mikael Ndjoli who exploded past the last man, only for his near post effort to be well kept out by the Addicks' 'keeper.

14 minutes later the Cherries had yet another chance to take the lead, as they hit the post twice in succession.  Jordan Green evaded a challenge and drove into the area, smashing a low drive against the left upright.

The rebound then fell to Sam Matthews who took a touch to compose himself, beat the defender and then struck the same post before it bounced clear.

The second-half started at a much slower tempo as the Addicks grew into the game.

But Brandon Goodship, who came on for Ndjoli, made an impact when he was introduced and was inches away to opening the scoring on two separate occasions.

The first, with 15 minutes to play, saw the striker latch onto a scuffed clearance by the goalkeeper, only to hit a sumptuous chip from 25-yards against the underside of the bar.

Goodship's second effort - and the last of the match - was again from distance. This time he forced the Addicks' keeper into a flying save to keep out his 25-yard free kick and ensure that both sides had to settle for a goalless draw.

AFC Bournemouth: Travers; Lee, Trialist, Buckley, Harfield; O'Connell (Trialist 56), Worthington (McCarthy 45), Matthews, Whitfield, Green (Surridge 78), Ndjoli (Goodship 52).

Substitutes: Steadman, Sheering, Cordner.
