Howe: There was really good output in terms of our work ethic against Reading

AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

Summer signing Lewis Cook put the Cherries ahead, but the hosts fought back to level in the second half through John Swift.

But despite having to settle for a draw, Howe was happy with the effort put in by his side.

"It was hard work tonight," the manager explained.

"The lads have had a really good week - it's been hard work again. We are still in the middle of the pre-season so there was slight fatigue coming into the game.

"But there was really good output in terms of our work ethic tonight. I felt we should have won the game but fair play to Reading - it was a good game."

Summer recruits Nathan Ake and Cook linked up to provide AFC Bournemouth's opener, and Howe reserved special praise for the two new signings.

"I thought both players were very good tonight," he continued.

"That was a real plus for us. Lewis took his goal very well and it was a really energetic performance from him.

"Nathan also looked very comfortable at centre back, so that was very pleasing to see and a good sign for us.

"I think this is the squad with the most potential that I've ever had. They have to prove now that they are the best squad, and that will come with the results and performances ahead of us."
