Howe: Our Minnesota performance was okay, but we can do better

AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

The Cherries defeated the NASL side thanks to a Callum Wilson brace, an own goal from home goalkeeper Sammy Ndjock and a single contribution from Lewis Grabban.

“It was okay. I think we can do better,” commented Howe after the match.

“The lads were tired going into the game due to the amount of work we have done. I felt until the first goal we were a little big leggy, but once we got that we were okay and in full control of the game.

“They had their moments before we scored, they had a couple of chances - it took the first goal to settle us down and allow us to get into our normal rhythm.

“I think we can play a lot better than that but the heat is such a big factor in games here - it's so extreme for us. The lads looked a little bit tired from that, but we got through it and it's a good win.”

The Cherries have now returned from America and are back in training in preparation for their pre-season friendly against Portsmouth on Saturday.

And whilst Howe is happy with his squad's progression during the training camp, he is more than aware that the Premier League gets underway in just over three weeks’ time.

“The trip as a whole has been really good,” he continued.

“We have really had a good time, we have worked very hard and got some good work into the players’ legs.

“We are happy with where we are at this stage, but we know we have to improve quickly with the first game looming.”
