Match report: Brockenhurst 0-2 AFC Bournemouth – Ndjoli and Dobre strikes send Cherries through

AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

Early second-half strikes from Mikael Ndjoli and Mihai Dobre were enough to ensure the Cherries safe passage into the next round at Grigg Lane.

The first chance of the evening came as Matthew Worthington rattled the crossbar. The midfielder picked up a loose ball on the edge of the area and fired at goal, but watched on as it ricochet off the woodwork.

Dobre was next to almost break the deadlock on the 37th minute. The deadline day signing found space in the hosts’ penalty area and unleashed a venomous strike at goal, but it dragged wide of the far post to round-off what was a relatively uneventful first half.

The Cherries started brightly after the interval and soon had the lead. Keelan O’Connell broke through and bore down on goal almost directly from kick off. The winger saw his shot saved by the foot of the Badgers’ goalkeeper, but Ndjoli was quick to pounce and tap home the rebound.

Shortly after, Dobre made it two. The deadline day recruit started a slick one-two on the edge of the area and, after receiving the return pass, rifled a strike into the net to double the advantage.

At this stage the Cherries were good value for their lead. Ndjoli was wreaking havoc across the Brockenhurst back line and once again got behind his man before being dragged down and awarded a penalty.

The striker quickly dusted himself down to take the spot kick but, having beaten the goalkeeper, saw his shot bounce clear off the crossbar.

Cherries XI: Stanton, Lee, Harfield, McCarthy, Hobson, Buckley, O'Connell, Worthington, Ndjoli, Bailey, Dobre.

Subs: Dennis, Cordner, Taylor, Kendall, Ofoborh.
