The Cherries Development Squad were beaten 3-1 by a hard-working Wimborne side at Cuthbury on Wednesday evening.

Magpies striker and Cherries commercial executive Tom Jeffes put the hosts ahead with a cool finish just a minute into the second half, while Jon Blake doubled their advantage when he scored from close range seven minutes later.

Former Cherries youngsters George Webb made it three after he beat goalkeeper Benji Buchel to the ball.

Substitute Brandon Goodship pulled one back with five minutes left with a powerful drive from the edge of the area.

The newly formed development squad played some neat stuff, but were restricted to a handful of long range efforts by the Southern League outfit over the course of the evening.

Alex Moth, who had been deployed in the centre of midfield, was stretchered off with a leg injury mid-way through the second half following a heavy challenge in the centre circle.

In an even first half Chris Hargreaves’ side came closest to scoring. Lewis Blackmore fired just wide from the edge of the area after he was teed up by Harrison Gilkes.

The winger cut inside from the left moments later before dragging his shot wide.

Jamal instigated the Cherries best move of the opening period as he carried the ball deep into the Wimborne half before laying the ball off to Clive Makoni. The forward squared for strike partner Sam Wilson, who was tackled by Adam Costello in the six yard box.

Wimborne started the second half the better of the two sides and Jeffes set them on the way to the pre-season win as he bent the ball into the far corner.

Blake was left with a simple finish after Buchel was unable to gather Cargill’s headed back pass before George Webb made it three by lifting the ball over the onrushing 'keeper.

Cargill also produced a well-timed tackle to stop Magpies striker Matt Kemble in the closing stages.

The Cherries named Cargill, Jamal, Gilkes and Makoni who featured in the first team friendly with Cardiff at the Goldsands Stadium 24 hours earlier.

Liechtenstein under-23 goalkeeper Buchel played the first 45 minutes for the visitors, while trialist Steed Bussell partnered Clive Makoni after the break.
