Wilson: This year is about playing as much as I can and making up for lost time

Written by afcb.co.uk

Wilson played 45 minutes in the 3-3 draw with Portsmouth - his second consecutive pre-season outing – and is fully over the knee injury which halted his excellent start to the memorable 2015/16 campaign.

The 24-year-old is excited by the pre-season schedule and is keen to replicate his impressive start to last term this season.

"It's good to get as many games in as possible and I'm excited about playing," Wilson said.

"This year is about playing as much as I can and making up for lost time. I want to replicate how I started last season and to maintain it. I feel good, I feel as though I'm stronger than last season.

"It was a hard time when I was out, any footballer that gets what they love doing taken away from them will tell you it is disappointing. I'd been through injuries before but I'd never out for that long - it's made me a stronger person and player and I hope to keep playing in pre-season to get me sharp for the opening day."

That opening day clash sees Manchester United travel to Vitality Stadium, in Jose Mourinho's first game in charge of the Red Devils.

It's a game with big billing and Wilson believes the squad will be in good shape for it with the pre-season schedule ahead of them.

"Every game is a big one in the Premier League, it’s exciting to test yourself against the top players," he continued.

"We’ll be prepared with our pre-season, it’s a time to focus, nail down a starting 11 that the manager likes , and go out there and do what we do on the training field.

"Our pre-season schedule has been tough so far and we're all looking forward to the games and I think everyone is looking forward to getting some minutes ahead of our first Premier League game.”
