Surman: Being named vice captain is a huge honour

Written by afcb.co.uk

The 29-year-old didn't miss a single minute of Premier League action last season and will take on the role after Simon Francis was named captain for the upcoming campaign.

"It's a massive honour for me," Surman told Cherries Player HD.

"I wasn't sure who would take the vice-captaincy when Tommy left, we assumed Franno would be captain of course.

"But I'm pleased the manager has given me the responsibility, I want to thank him for having the faith in me to do the role."

Surman admits that his leadership style in the dressing room will be different to others, with the former Southampton, Wolves and Norwich playmaker choosing to lead by example as opposed to being a loud figure in the camp.

He continued, "I'd probably say my style is all about setting an example, I'm probably not the loudest around the place as the lads will tell you.

"It looks like we'll have quite a young team this year so it's the job of the experienced players to try and lead from the front.

"From my point of view my responsibility is to show how things are done here and at times everyone will have to be a leader this season."
