Born in Penrith Australia, Smith made the move to England at the age of 14.

Soon after his move, he was spotted by Liverpool playing for Chesterfield High School in Crosby.

Since making the step up to Liverpool's academy, the full-back has been a real star. He was voted Scholar of the Year for the 2011/12 season, a joint award handed out by the Premier League and the Professional Footballers’ Association.

A brief loan spell followed at Swindon Town before he made his Reds debut in December 2013, aged just 19. He came on against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Since then, Smith has continued to impress in Liverpool's first-team and under-21s, playing on the wing as well as full-back.

He scored his first senior goal for the Reds last season against Exeter City in the Emirates FA Cup and made 10 total appearances under Jurgen Klopp - including one at Vitality Stadium against the Cherries last season.

Although he was born in Australia, Smith was also eligible to play for England.

He represented the England under-17 side at the 2011 FIFA under-17 World Cup and made his England under-20 debut in 2014.

But in September 2014 he was called into the full Australian national side and made his debut in a friendly against Belgium.

Since then, the 22-year-old has won eight more caps with his last appearance for the Socceroos coming against England at the Stadium of Light prior to Euro 2016.
