Cummings: I cannot thank the fans enough, it was something I will never forget

Despite the rain and the dull conditions, fans came to support the popular Aberdonian who was massively influential in the promotion winning side from League Two in 2003, as well being influential in helping the Cherries complete the great escape in 2009.

Cummings was delighted with the turn out and hailed the testimonial against the Serie A giants as a day he would never forget.

"I loved it every second of it," Cummings told BBC Radio Solent.

"Despite it being rather damp and wet it certainly wasn't miserable. Even watching I was enjoying the game and the ovation I got was something I will never forget.

"I really wanted it to continue and I got a 100% pass completion! I thoroughly enjoyed it, the lads really welcomed me and their attitude and application was first class.

"In fairness to the boys they were ever so gracious with me, and the fans were quite brilliant. The ovation I got, it felt like me debut, it was something I will never forget.

"It was a great occasion for my last game, and the fans who supported me for my whole career came out once again despite the weather so I cannot thank them enough."

He added: "Today probably wasn't the day for my practical jokes! The club's probably moved on from that, I kept it clean!

"I was like a shy boy in the corner but the lads all welcomed me so well."
