AFC Bournemouth were beaten 4-0 by Manchester City as three first-half goals in the space of 12 minutes punished the Cherries at Vitality Stadium.
The UEFA Champions League quarter finalists showed their class as goals from Fernando, Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero and substitute Aleksander Kolarov condemned Eddie Howe's side to defeat.
It could've been a different game had the Cherries taken a golden chance early on, Lewis Grabban played in Joshua King who got through into the area but the Norweigan scuffed his effort wide from ten-yards.
But City were ruthless and after just six minutes, had the opener as a corner from the right reached Fernando and the Brazilian stroked in a volley which flew over everyone and past Artur Boruc.
Six minutes later, the two-time Barclays Premier League champions showed their class with a well worked second, as Aguero chipped the ball into the path of David Silva whose cushioned pass perfectly teed up De Bruyne who sidefooted into the bottom corner with ease.
After playing a massive part in the second goal, Aguero notched the third just before the 20 minute mark, as he met Jesus Navas' high cross from the right at the back post to guide a header just over the line.
It could have been four had Fernandinho's shot from 25-yards cannoned off the crossbar, but the Cherries continued to plug away, and Lewis Grabban had two decent headed chances in the box which the striker - in his first start since returning to the club - nodded over.
At the break, King was replaced by Marc Pugh, but City continued where they left off, as just seconds after the restart Boruc made a superb stop to deny an excellent De Bruyne volley.
The Cherries struggled to gain any momentum against Manuel Pellegrini's side and Adam Smith hobbled off injured just after the hour mark, to be replaced by skipper Tommy Elphick.
The remainder of the game was quiet, but Boruc had to be alert as he palmed away subsitute Kolarov's low drive in the area.
The three first-half goals may have killed the game as a contest but the Cherries stuck to their principles and kept the ball down attempting to penetrate the visitors' backline.
But the hosts couldn't find the crucial strike to get them back in the game and with the last kick of the match, substitute Kolarov managed to beat Boruc with his second attempt - a bullet left-footed effort from just inside the area - to give the Citizens a fourth and round off a forgettable day for the Cherries.
