Steve Cook scored a second half header as AFC Bournemouth recorded a 1-1 draw with Rotherham United in the Sky Bet Championship.
Cook converted from Matt Ritchie’s cross to give the Cherries a deserved lead following an improved second half performance.
Chances were few and far between in the opening period, but the defender’s second goal of the season looked to have settled the contest at the Goldsands Stadium.
However, substitute Jordan Bowery bundled the ball over the line to score an injury time equaliser for the visitors.
Eddie Howe’s team returned from the international break with deadline day signing Andrew Surman on the bench, but without Tokelo Rantie.
The South African striker was missing from the squad having picked up a knock on international duty last week.
The Cherries enjoyed plenty of early possession, but had to wait until just short of the half hour mark for their first clear cut chance.
Simon Francis ventured forward and picked out Yann Kermorgant, who was unable to guide his header towards goal.
Rotherham’s best opportunity came from Craig Morgan’s knock down, which was smashed over the bar from close range by Kari Arnason late on in the first half.
Following an even opening period, the Cherries returned from the home changing room with more pace and purpose in their play.
Callum Wilson was at the heart of all the action, almost converting from Kermorgant’s cross and then hitting the post after a powerful solo run shortly afterwards.
The breakthrough finally came through Cook, who had stayed up for a corner and headed in at the back post from Ritchie’s cross.
However, the home crowd had to endure a tense final ten minutes, with Alex Revell only just failing to tap in Matt Derbyshire’s cross from a couple of yards out.
An equaliser did come though as Bowery prodded home after the Cherries failed to clear a corner in injury time.
